The SmartTOP Convertible Top Controller made by Mods4cars for Audi A5 is a retrofit module which allows using the convertible top with one-touch convenience and while driving at slow speeds. It also gives owners the option to raise and lower the top from the original key fob remote. This summer Mods4cars has improved not just one, but two aspects of the kit: On one hand the wiring harness was redesigned with OEM quality connectors in order to make installation even easier, on the other hand the SmartTOP module itself received a design overhaul and comes in the exclusive, custom designed Mods4cars enclosure.

“Our modules offer increased convenience by providing intelligent features and simple operation. We set a high value on offering products that are easy to install by anyone. For that reason and to avoid problems or mistakes during installation, we ship our kits with custom plug-in-between wiring harnesses.” says PR-Manager Sven Tornow.

Just by adding the wiring adapter in between a couple of connections the SmartTOP kit is connected to the vehicle electronics. New, OEM quality connectors now provide perfect fit and total protection against misaligned connections. The plugs and sockets are all equipped with latching mechanisms in order to provide a safe and reliable link. “Installation of this kit merely requires opening an access panel in the trunk of the car and is completed in just a few minutes.” Sven Tornow continues.

Also the appearance of the product itself was improved by using the new, custom designed product enclosure for the SmartTOP module. The new enclosure is smaller and more ergonomically shaped, so it can be installed in tighter locations in the car. The main connector and USB port are now fully enclosed and protected. The conformally coated electronics board inside is protected from moisture.

Apart from the two signature features each SmartTOP module made by Mods4cars offers a host of bonus features: On cars with keyless entry option the top can be lowered or raised by touching the door handle without the need to retrieve the key. The windows can be controlled independently from the top by remote and a chirp signal can be programmed to sound briefly when locking or unlocking the car. An extended mode can be activated which allows starting or stopping the engine while the top is in motion. Also the entire product can be temporarily disabled while retaining all user configurable settings.

All features and functions are user programmable. Settings can be adjusted in the car using key combinations or by connecting a Windows or Mac computer to the USB port present on the module. The USB port also allows quick and easy firmware updates which are provided free of charge online.

Effective immediately all SmartTOP add-on kits shipped for the BMW 3 series convertible and Z4 roadster come with a new unique smaller and more ergonomic plastic enclosure. The kit makes it possible to raise and lower the top from the original factory key fob without the need to reprogram or change any of the existing parts.

After installing the module the top can be operated with one-touch operation up to a speed of 40km/h (~28mph). All that is required is a short push of the button. There is no more need to pull over and hold down the top button. A host of bonus features gives drivers other useful and convenient functionality.

To give a few examples, the windows can be operated by remote and independently from the top. All windows can be raised simultaneously with a quick tap of a button. Owners can set the module to unlock all doors when the ignition is turned off for extra convenience when getting out. Mods4cars has lowered the price for the SmartTOP Convertible Top Module for Bentley Continental GTC permanently and effective immediately. The new sale price is now set at 299 Euros + tax. “The Bentley customer love to drive in comfort and our product offers just that when it comes to using the convertible top.” says PR-Manager Sven Tornow. So it is possible to operate the top while driving slowly and with just a single touch. It is no longer necessary to hold down the switch for the entire time. A quick tap automatically raises or lowers the top.

SmartTOP Convertible Top Module for Mercedes-Benz gets functionality boost

Thanks to the aftermarket SmartTOP Convertible Top Controller offered by automotive electronics specialist Mods4cars, Mercedes-Benz SLK R172 owners can now open and close the top while driving at slow speeds or control the top from afar via the original factory key remote. Both functions gain convenient one-touch operation, making the need to hold down any switch or button a thing of the past. Mods4cars continuously works on improving their existing products, always taking customer requests into account.

In April of this year Mods4cars published an update which now allows new and existing customers of the SmartTOP product to lower the top and raise the rear windows. By factory these windows are locked in the down position as long as the convertible top is down. The SmartTOP allows owners to bring them up with simple one-touch convenience.

This new feature was fully integrated into the SmartTOP firmware. Owners can choose if they want all 4 windows to come up automatically after opening the top from the console switch or the remote. Of course it is possible to retain the default setting and only control the front windows.

Thanks to the aftermarket SmartTOP add-on top controller module, owners of the Porsche Carrera 991 and Boxster 981 get to enjoy full automatic one-touch top operation. Activate the console switch briefly and the top opens or closes by itself; there is no longer any need to hold the switch for the duration of the operation. Mods4cars has now added two new features to the Porsche Carrera 991 and Boxster 981 modules: If desired, the module can mute the radio when the ignition is first turned on. “Unfortunately the last used volume setting is not preserved on these systems. The radio always turns on at a factory pre-set volume when turning the ignition on, even if it was turned off or muted before.” says PR manager Sven Tornow. “This function is intended for those among our customers who would like to start driving without the radio playing.” Sven Tornow concludes.

SmartTOP for Mercedes-Benz SLK now allows use of the rear windows with top down

Recently Mods4cars announced the availability of a firmware update allowing use of the rear windows on Mercedes SLK R172 with the top down. Now the same function is available on the SLK R171 as well. The Vegas based outfit Mods4cars offers aftermarket electronic modules called SmartTOP which extend the functionality of the cars’ convertible top operation. The signature feature of the modules is the ability to raise and lower the top while driving at slow speeds and with one-touch convenience. They also allow top operation from the original key fob remote and each one comes with an individual set of user configurable bonus features adding to every day convenience.

“We continually work on improving our existing products and are always taking our customers‘ wishes and input into consideration.“ says PR-Manager Sven Tornow. “Raising the rear windows with the top down was one of the most requested features; it creates a more elegant appearance and improves wind protection.” Sven Tornow continues.

By factory default the two small rear windows are permanently in the down position as long as the convertible top is open.
