If you run into any problems after installing the module, please go over the manual again in great detail, clicking every photo for full size!
We now have a full Knowledge Base with Support Ticket system available online at www.mods4cars.com/support

If you need to contact us, the best and fastest way to do so is by opening a support ticket there

This module comes with our USB Field Upgrade and Configuration Port! We recommend connecting it to a computer BEFORE YOU INSTALL and using our support app "m4cconnect" to do a quick firmware update check. M4cconnect as well as all other information regarding USB update and configuration can be found at www.mods4cars.com/usb. You can even configure and activate your favorite module functions and settings on screen before the module is installed in the car! It is a good idea to permanently install the USB cable with the module in the car, leaving the computer plug in an easily accessible spot for later use with a Wifi/3G/4G connected laptop.
    IMPORTANT TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

If the top does not work properly or at all after installing the module, these tips can be very helpful:

    • 1) Turn Function 1 (Main Switch) off (Setting 0). The module will be completely passive. If the problem still persists and the top won't work, check all connections. Please also check the green DATA LED on the module!

    • 2) Function 2 now has a valet mode (Setting 2) on many modules. Valet mode completely disables opening of the top. Check the setting for function 2 and make sure the module is NOT in valet mode!

IMPORTANT: Not all modules have the valet mode! Please check the Operation and Programming Manual!
    FUNCTION OF THE DATA LED

The DATA LED shows the module status and helps troubleshooting issues during installation:

    • When the ignition is ON: The LED should BLINK (flash) in a regular pattern (about 1x per second). This indicates that the module is receiving data and should work OK.

    • When the ignition is OFF: The LED should BLINK (flash) as long as the data bus is still active and turn off after a while (max 5 min) indicating that the car has entered stand-by (sleep) mode.

    • If the LED is permanently lit with the ignition ON, the module is NOT receiving data from the top controller and all connectors should be checked.

    • If the LED does NOT light up at all when turning the ignition ON, the module is either not getting power or not receiving ANY data. All connectors should be checked.
    Installation - Steps 1-3
    1. Before starting with the installation, open the top and windows, turn the ignition fully off and pull the key! Remove the air guides with a coin (quarter turn counterclockwise).
    2. For the following steps you will need a Torx T-20 and a Torx T-30 key. Remove the bases of the air guides (3 torx screws each) and set all the parts aside carefully to not scratch the plexi glass surfaces.
    3. Loosen the center speaker cover carefully with a putty knife or soft plastic tool, then pull straight up.
    Installation - Steps 4-6
    4. Tilt the speaker cover forward and disconnect both plugs for speaker (1) and park assist (2) if present. Remove torx screw (3) in the middle.
    5. Remove the two round carpet holders (1) and (2) by twisting counterclockwise. Remove the pocket (3) by pulling it apart on top while gently pulling toward the front of the car and up. Remove the entire roll bar cover (4) by pulling straight up hard, but use caution, both speakers need to be disconnected next! The wires are VERY SHORT!
5a. Optional: Remove the entire speaker assembly on both sides. Use a plastic pry tool and carefully pull it out.
5b. Optional: Disconnect the speaker wire connector in this step from both speakers in order to make lifting the roll bar cover easier in step 7.
    6. Disconnect the small black plugs (1) from both speakers.
    Installation - Steps 7-9
    7. Move the roll bar cover to the front and lay it upside down on top of the headrests.
    8. Pull both carpet bars (1) straight up, then fold the entire middle section of the carpet down.
    9. Now remove the two silver torx screws (1) on both sides first, then loosen the 10 torx screws (2) on the bottom (unscrew about 1/2 inch), but don't remove them. Lastly, remove all 12 torx screws (3) on top.
    Installation - Steps 10-12
    10. Tilt the black metal shield forward.
    11. The convertible top control unit is under the right roll bar.
    12. Disconnect the left plug (1) from the top controller.
    Installation - Steps 13-15
    13. Disconnect the right plug by pushing in the locking tab (1) while flipping the lever (2) over to the right.
    14. Connect the plug (1) to the socket (2) on the supplied wiring harness. Make sure it snaps securely into place.
    15. Insert the plug on the other end of the wiring adapter into the top controller.
    Installation - Steps 16-18
    16. Connect the other plug removed earlier (1) with the matching socket on the harness (2). Make sure the grey locking lever comes back up and latches into place.
    17. Now insert the other plug (1) into the top controller, also making sure the locking lever latches into place. Twist the wire bundle around and stow the connectors in the void just to the right of the top controller box as shown here (2).
    18. Connect the SmartTOP module to the wiring harness and stow it in the void just to the left of the top controller (1). Now press the unlock button on the remote once and check the green LED on the module. It should blink, indicating a correct installation. We recommend connecting and leaving the USB cable as shown in the next steps, to get easy access to the module via laptop later.
    Installation - Steps 19-21
    19. The USB cable can be run parallel to the existing wiring harnesses. The pocket seems like an ideal location to hide the USB plug. Re-attach and tighten all torx screws and fold the carpet back up. Re-insert the two carpet bars and re-attach the two round covers.
    20. When reassembling the parts, remember to connect the speakers and make sure the rubber seal (1) is on top of the plastic edge of the roll bar cover as shown.
    21. The USB cable (1) can be run from the middle of the roll bar cover down into the pocket, where it is out of sight, but easily accessible, in case the module needs to be configured or updated via laptop.
