Why is the console top button direction reversed? I want to pull to close / push to close

Question:

After installing the SmartTOP STHFBW1 module in a new F12 BMW 6 series the center console top switch is suddenly reversed (Pull to Open instead of Push to Open)?

Answer:

BMW changed the wiring in some models of the F12 and reversed the switch direction by changing the programming in the original top control unit. As a result our module now auto-detects this change and adjusts it's mode of operation appropriately. Since the wiring from the switch to the control unit is unchanged, pull still means open and push means close to the SmartTOP module. In the affected models the SmartTOP module takes over and the default setting is pull to open, push to close.

In module firmware v1.01 and later, function 6 allows adjusting the switch direction in order to give users the choice if they want the more intuitive pull to open or the new push to open.
