STAFPE1 on Porsche 996: Remote does not seem to work

Problem:

Even though the remote function is enabled on the module, the top seems to not react to the remote, even when the manual is followed for the timing.

Cause:

The 996 SmartTOP does not have direct access to the receiver electronics for the remote control. It is installed at the top control module where only a limited number of analog signals are available, since the 996 does NOT have a data bus. We figured a workaround to get the remote to work but for technical reasons the timing is critical. There is an activation delay.

Solution:

The timing for pressing the lock/unlock button on the remote is absolutely critical. The button has to be pressed and held down for 2 seconds in order for the SmartTOP module to register the keypress at all. The best rule of thumb is press and hold for 2 seconds, let go, press again immediately and hold for 2 seconds, let go and press immediately one last time and hold for 2 seconds. The top should then activate after a short delay.

A recent firmware update (v1.10) also improves the timing and detection greatly. We recommend updating the module via USB port and m4cconnect software!
