The SmartTOP add-on Convertible Top Controllers for BMW 4 Series and 6 Series Convertibles bring One-Touch convenience to the center console switch and allow use of the top while driving at slow speeds. They also enable remote operation from the original key fob remote. The manufacturer Mods4cars now added another function via firmware update to the SmartTOP for BMW 4 and 6 Series: The ability to reverse the direction of operation for the console switch.

The SmartTOP for BMW 4 and 6 Series made by aftermarket automotive electronics specialist Mods4cars are add-on kits that provide convenience and simplify top operation. It is possible to open and close the top while driving at slow speeds with just a single tap. The switch no longer needs to be held down for the entire duration of the operation.

Additionally, the kits allow owners to use their original factory key remotes to open and close the top from afar. SmartTOP customers can already open their top while still approaching the car. A quick key combination on the remote sets the top in motion. At the first sign of impending rainfall the top can be quickly closed without the need to run and get in the car first. No changes need to be made to either the keys or the receiver systems.

Apart from these two main functions all SmartTOP modules come with bonus features depending on the car. The kits for BMW 4 Series (F33) and BMW 6 Series (F12) now received an update to include a new feature: If so desired, the direction of operation for the console switch can be reversed. “For some of our customers the new factory default on some models is counter intuitive. The switch needs to be pulled to open and pushed to close.” explains PR-Manager Sven Tornow.

The new SmartTOP feature allows customers to select their own preferred way on any model. Pull to open or push to open. Currently all US models come with the switch working the opposite way as on Euro (and other) models. With SmartTOP all customers can choose which way they like, no matter where they are and which way the switch came from the factory.
