TROUBLE SHOOTING - NEED TO CONTACT US?
If you run into any problems after installing the module, please go over the manual again in great detail, clicking every photo for full size!
We now have a full Knowledge Base with Support Ticket system available online at www.mods4cars.com/support

If you need to contact us, the best and fastest way to do so is by opening a support ticket there

This module comes with our USB Field Upgrade and Configuration Port! We recommend connecting it to a computer BEFORE YOU INSTALL and using our support app "m4cconnect" to do a quick firmware update check. M4cconnect as well as all other information regarding USB update and configuration can be found at www.mods4cars.com/usb. You can even configure and activate your favorite module functions and settings on screen before the module is installed in the car! It is a good idea to permanently install the USB cable with the module in the car, leaving the computer plug in an easily accessible spot for later use with a Wifi/3G/4G connected laptop.
    IMPORTANT TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

If the top does not work properly or at all after installing the module, these tips can be very helpful:

    • 1) Turn Function 1 (Main Switch) off (Setting 0). The module will be completely passive. If the problem still persists and the top won't work, check all connections. Please also check the green DATA LED on the module!

    • 2) Function 2 now has a valet mode (Setting 2) on many modules. Valet mode completely disables opening of the top. Check the setting for function 2 and make sure the module is NOT in valet mode!

IMPORTANT: Not all modules have the valet mode! Please check the Operation and Programming Manual!
    FUNCTION OF THE DATA LED

The DATA LED shows the module status and helps troubleshooting issues during installation:

    • When the ignition is ON: The LED should BLINK (flash) in a regular pattern (about 1x per second). This indicates that the module is receiving data and should work OK.

    • When the ignition is OFF: The LED should BLINK (flash) as long as the data bus is still active and turn off after a while (max 5 min) indicating that the car has entered stand-by (sleep) mode.

    • If the LED is permanently lit with the ignition ON, the module is NOT receiving data from the top controller and all connectors should be checked.

    • If the LED does NOT light up at all when turning the ignition ON, the module is either not getting power or not receiving ANY data. All connectors should be checked.
    Installation - Steps 1-3
    1. Completely close the top and turn the ignition off. Open the trunk, empty it and roll the luggage divider all the way forward. The rod holding the net is held in place by two brackets.
    2. Roll the divider back in, then unclip the rod from both plastic brackets.
    3. Disconnect the plug (1) to the right of the luggage divider mechanism.
    Installation - Steps 4-6
    4. On both hinges flip the levers (1) down, then pull the entire divider straight out towards the back of the car.
    5. Lift all bottom covers and pieces out until you see metal.
    6. Remove the screws (1) (2) and (3). The plastic cover (4) will be removed in the next steps.
    Installation - Steps 7-9
    7. If not already done in step 6, remove the screw (1) on the left luggage divider switch, then activate both luggage divider switches with some objects (IMPORTANT: use an eraser or some small object that won't fall out when closing the trunk lid!), then turn the ignition on and open the top just to the position where the trunk lid points straight up (service position), then stop and turn the ignition fully off.
    8. Fully remove the plastic cover over the left receptacle post (disconnecting the small blue plug in the process). Remove screws (1) and (2), then carefully lift the support post and collect the thin shims underneath.
    9. Remove the two screws (1) and (2) and the metal plate held by them. Peel out the trunk light as shown and disconnect it from the small plug.
    Installation - Steps 10-12
    10. Remove the two nuts (1) and (2) on the bottom of the plastic back cover.
    11. Lift up the entire plastic cover (use some force, it is snapped in place) and simultaneously lift the carpeted cover past it as shown. Let the plastic cover loosely fall back down. There are two carpet rivets in position (1) and further back that need to be removed in order to lift up the entire carpeted piece.
    12. Important: Watch for the 12V socket (if present). The white power plug needs to be disconnected and later reconnected!
    Installation - Steps 13-14
    13. Behind the carpeted cover is the white top control module. Disconnect the orange plug (1), the white plug (2) and the black plug (3) and connect the supplied module wiring harness in between all three. All connections will only fit one way. Make sure all plugs and connectors latch securely.
    14. Important: When connecting the black connector with the grey lever to the big square socket, make sure you push it in really hard! The corners of the plug (see arrows) must not protrude more than about 1mm from the socket housing. Connect the SmartTOP module to the wiring harness and tap the unlock button on the remote once. The green LED on the module should now blink, showing all connections are good. Attach the module with the supplied sticker (we also suggest connecting and running the USB cable to an accessible spot for later updates or configuration via laptop) and reassemble everything. Configure the module according to our operation and programming manual.
