Porsche Cayman / Boxster 987: Airbag light ON after install

Problem:
After installation the airbag light stays on permanently every time the car is started.

Cause:
The connector that needs to be taken apart to install the remoteKEY wires also carries the two wires for the passenger door airbag. If the ignition is turned on before the connector reconnected tightly (signal to airbag is interrupted), the system stores an airbag fault code immediately.

Solution:
Unfortunately this fault code can only be cleared at the dealer. Most dealers will clear it for free when taking the car if for oil change or inspection.
